Community based newsletter - contributions wanted

We received this from Andrea Stewart, regarding contributions to the next ‘Up Your Street’ round:

I am working on the local area newsletters – ‘Up your street’ - the next editions of which are due out in January. There are separate editions covering the town centre areas of Norwood, Clapham, Streatham, Brixton, Stockwell and North Lambeth.

We would really like to include some community based stories in these next ones, as we are aiming for the newsletters to become a community resource where different organisations and groups can promote their successes, events and initiatives to each other. This could be to let their neighbours know of important local issues or to encourage them to go along to events within their area. The fact that each household receives a copy of the tailored newsletter makes it a great way to get exposure to local residents. Those living in Lambeth will have received a copy back in September and hopefully found them a good read… We believe including some more community focussed stories would make them even more useful for our residents!

It would be great if organisations / contacts could contribute to these newsletters. We are looking for contributions to be with us by 15 November in order to put the newsletters together by the Christmas break. I would just ask that any article offers are not Christmas/New Year holiday related as these will be going out in mid-January.

I am more than happy to be contacted directly by anyone who would like to contribute to discuss any ideas or offer help in any way. The email address / phone number below are the best way to get in touch.

KOV Forum meeting 19 January 2010

Kennington, Oval and Vauxhall Forum will meet in:

This is a public meeting and everyone living or working in Kennington, Oval or Vauxhall will be very welcome. Refreshments will be available at the start of the meeting.

Vauxhall area draft planning framework

The long awaited draft Planning Framework for Vauxhall is now available for consultation. The closing date for responses is 29 January 2010. Kennington, Oval, Vauxhall Forum will be hosting a public presentation on this, date to be announced shortly. Next scheduled Forum meeting is 19 January 2010.

Kennington, Oval and Vauxhall Forum

Hello and welcome to Kennington, Oval and Vauxhall Forum's blog. We're proud to have amongst our members the Kennington Association, Riverside Community Development Trust, Friends of Spring Gardens, Friends of Kennington Park, Friends of Durning Library and many more local groups in the SE11 SW8 area. Individuals and local businesses are welcome to join too.

We're now independent of Lambeth Council (although we have some funding from their Active Communities Unit for running costs). Our members believe we can achieve far more by working together than we can working separately. We'd like even more local community groups and individuals to join us. Currently we're drafting a response to Lambeth's draft Core Strategy of the Local Development Framework and we want your views before we finalise it. It will be posted within the next couple of days.

We're next holding a public meeting for everyone on 9 June at Centenary Hall, Cottington St SE11 4RZ - 6.30 for 7.00 pm and hope you'll join in. We'll be considering the draft Core Strategy - what happens next - and also we hear there's a alcohol free zone being proposed for the Vauxhall area - we want to find out more about that too.
